About
Nott Architecture

Nott Architecture offers experienced and personalized Architectural services ranging from initial sketch designs through to documentation, tendering, supervision and contract administration.

With over thirty years experience the firm has designed and delivered a large number of projects ranging from city and country houses to large commercial and educational projects.

Principal, Terence Nott, FAIA, graduated from Melbourne University in 1970. After working and gaining experience in Sydney and London he set up his own firm in 1981 based in North Fitzroy. A large number of projects in central and metropolitan Melbourne followed as the firm became well established. Later the firm widened its field to include Phillip Island and western Gippsland.

Currently Nott Architecture’s main field of work is single and multi residential projects in inner Melbourne and Gippsland.

Terence has a passion for environmentally sustainable design (ESD) and has participated in the AIA’s Sustainable Architecture Forum since its commencement in 2005. He applies this passion to all the firm’s projects.

For the 2004 Year of the Built Environment event, Nott Architecture was selected to design and launch the Terraces Project in Carlton. This project for Archicentre, the Melbourne City Council and the Building Commission demonstrated how ESD principles can be successfully applied in a practical manner to typical inner city housing renovations and extensions.

In 2009 he presented a series of seminars throughout metropolitan Melbourne and in Gippsland entitled “10 Things you need to know about building in a Changing Climate” on behalf of Archicentre. He also assisted with the bushfire relief program after the Black Saturday fires by promoting bush fire resistant house designs in Marysville and other fire ravaged locations. For his efforts he received the Victorian Archicentre State Manager’s award.

Aside from his architecture work he has been deeply involved with the Phillip Island Conservation Society as a committee member for the past 17 years. He is also very interested in local urban history and has written and conducted walking tours for the Fitzroy History Society. His favorite past times are sketching, which he does on his travels, and languages. He speaks basic German and is studying Mandarin at the Confucius Institute in Melbourne. He has travelled widely in Germany and China.

His community involvement includes honorary services to his local kindergarten and primary school, membership of the University High School Council and the City of Yarra’s community representative on the Inner Circle Railway Lineal Park Working Group.

Terence believes that client satisfaction is the key to a successful project outcome. This has led to a long list of repeat clients seeking architectural services. Crucial to achieving a successive outcome extensive consultation is held with the clients so that all design options are explored thoroughly before work commences on site.
